A Story About A Kimono

Since the start of 2020 I have a goal to make my own clothing. But not necessarily in a start a brand and sell T shirts kind of way.

I want to make responsible clothing for myself. I want to make the best fitting T’s. The most stand alone products that turn heads. All in a sustainable way.

I’ve been quietly, in the shadows, working on this idea for myself. Haven’t shared much of it but its a top 3 project on a weekly basis for me - I even have a brand name and an IG account for it that I wont share at this time. Full sketch pages, renderings, pitch deck, the whole nine yards. Not yet.

Anyway, this is a story about a kimono. I don’t know or remember where the idea of footwear dust bags came from to be honest. I think I was looking through my shoe boxes and ran into 3 in a row and just pulled them all out. I came up with roughly 10 or so. The idea of a kimono has been rattling my brain for the past two or so months. It’s such a simple garment, yet nobody wears them.

When I began thinking about dust bags, the thought of money comes to my mind. They only appear in footwear that is relatively expensive -and i’m fortunate to be able to own so many pairs that have them. But that thought ends there… meaning I don’t know anyone who uses them; err… not to their intended purposes!

Anyway, I combined this idea of a kimono, tweaked a pattern from pinterest to fit my body, and the dust bags and created this beauty. I’m in love with it. I can’t wait to wear it in the fall.
