How To Stay Positive In A World Focused On The Negative : Friday’s with Filar #003

This week has been a wild one. From the crazies coming out when experiencing a full moon, public voting for elections, Twitter firing 50% of their employees, to Bitcoin hitting a new yearly low - this week covered your emotions regardless what you believe in.

The biggest news in the finance world is FTX crashing - the second largest crypto trading platform. I won’t take credit for any of this, but this is one of the better Twitter Threads I found about what actually happened:

So why am I starting this weeks blog with something so massively depressing and gloomy? To prove my point that it’s easy to get sucked into the internet vortex of negativity. With that being said let’s focus on the good out there 👇🏼

The Main Idea 🙇🏼‍♂️:

I’ve been thinking about this for the past 6 months or so more than I ever have in my life. For those who really know me, I’m wildly optimistic and positive 95% of every day. But it is got dam exhausting browsing social, regardless of the platform - simply because the negative posts or messages get the most buzz, and therefore collect the most views and hit your news feed more.

Gary Vaynerchuk has a quote from earlier this year: “It is positive peoples responsibility to get louder about it” and its so true. So here I am, sharing 3 things on ways I stay positive in a world full of negative.

  1. Don’t watch the news. This will probably be off-putting to a lot of readers because I know how much people do this but it’s too adverse for me. Every 30 seconds it changes from a car accident pile up, a mass shooting, the weather being 53 degrees, to a stabbing down the street. WHY would anyone want to consume that?

The argument I always hear is “I want to stay informed”. I just don’t see how this is staying informed, unless the above are meaningful to you.

  2. Surround yourself with positive people. This is why I love Twitter as a platform. I see the tweets with the people I interact most with, and its in my control to interact with the only positive people. Therefore I see the tweets saying “Hope everyone has a great day” or “Lets get it today” or whatever it may be. Versus “Fuck Kanye” or “Monday’s suck” - which also exist on Twitter, I just don’t follow those people.

Its so easy for us to get emotional over something we read, see, or hear that triggers us the wrong way. If someone at work is negative all the time, don’t talk to them. I’ve learned to cut out people who don’t elevate me and excuse myself from conversations which bring me zero value. These micro decisions will compound for you.

  3. Being super kind to yourself. I don’t think this gets mentioned enough about holistically staying positive. Not everyday is great. Not everyday is rainbows and butterflies. But when you’re not having a great day, acknowledge that, take a breathe for yourself, eat that extra cookie, and reset. Tomorrows another chance to be in a better mood. But if you focus on the negative and not feeling great, it’ll trickle into the next day, and the next day, etc etc

This process isn’t a light switch. It happens over time of you religiously focusing on it. Life isn’t about your 6 dollar starbucks coffee having too much oat milk in it, it’s about the 2 green lights you caught in a row on the way home from work.

A DOSE OF DESIGN ✍🏼 :

This image is fascinating on a number of fronts. The first part that I noticed was the rectangular reflections from the window, which enhanced the box bookshelves in the foreground. Secondarily, what a different way to showcase books (or other items) within your home. I’ve become a big fan of doing things different than the norm, and this definitely fills that cup.

For those looking for a new book, I started reading “The Almanack of Naval Ravikant” and it is fucking incredible. Would recommend if someones looking for a perspective shift.

Feet Finder 🦶🏼:  Solana x Asics

When I first pegged this Asics shoe to be written about, I had no idea what the collaboration was about. After reading their FAQ on their website, I’m still not 100% sure but here’s some key bullets I found out:

  • Its 200 USDC (a stable coin within crypto currency that is relatable to the dollar)

  • You can’t purchase with credit card - you need a crypto wallet which makes it difficult for the non-crypto people to purchase. This really doesn’t make sense to me.

  • You get an ‘airdrop’ NFT with the purchase of the shoe

  • Theres the light mode and dark mode sneaker. This was what caught my eye. The product shots are amazing - so hats off here.

  • They partnered with STEPN technology which tracks your movement but there’s very little info on the site about it.

  • There’s no alue add for customers about this product. Go see Friday’s with Filar 001 where I go in on this..

I can admire new companies trying new things and learning about the web3 ecosystem. So thanks for attempting to onboard people to Solana, but I’m not sure I see the value proposition here. Someone from Asics hit me up and help me understand!

As always, have the greatest weekend in the history of weekends.

See you next Friday.
