How to Heat Up Your Energy As It Starts To Get Dark and Cold : Friday’s with Filar #004

With daylight savings hitting the east coast this month, most of us have started feeling the impacts already. By 4:30pm its dark outside and we still have another 6,7,8 hours left in our day, depending on how much sleep you get.

And then when you pair that with the cold fronts starting to come in, all you want to do is curl up in the corner of your couch, put on an oversized hoodie, watch tv and close up that laptop way earlier than you do in other parts of the year. So the question becomes, how are people staying in high spirits and high energy during the darkest portion of the year?

And you’ll never guess this, the coffee answer isn’t more coffee.

Alright, let’s stop stalling. Whats your point Dave?

The Main Idea 🙇🏼‍♂️:

I’ll preface the following by saying, if you want to put on wool socks, cozy up with a blanket, and you accept this season is your ‘me’ time, then you should do that. But if you’re trying to get more work done and power through the back half of the day and break through old habits this winter like I am, lets brainstorm some ideas on how to keep your energy up:

  1. Don’t stop moving.
Stand up and stretch. Do 10 pushups between meetings. Go for a quick 5 minute break outside to get some sun. More so, don’t curl up on the couch. Don’t sit still. As soon as you do, your body adjusts and that becomes the gold star it wants to reach everyday. Once our body gets comfortable, that becomes the focus.

But you can change that. Anytime it crosses your mind that you’re getting tired or drowsy, get up and shake out your arms - hell, even yell as loud as you want - but dont sit there in silence just thinking about how tired you are. Your body has more energy in it then you think. It’s build on a series of habits we’ve instilled in ourselves. All that is modifiable!

  2. Exercise.

I know, I know, I know. We’ve heard this a million times. And everyone has an excuse as to why they cant. And yes, this totally depends on who you are as a person and when is best for you. Personally speaking, I hit an energy wall between 2-3pm usually everyday. When that happens, I tell myself to put out one more solid hour of work and then I take a break and go to the gym, for a run, or for a simple walk outside.

Two things happen here - first change of environment which makes the brain wander and explore new ideas that generate energy. Two, you get your blood flowing, build a sweat, and reset your body to thinking there’s still a lot more left in the day. With this strategy I can get another 2-4 more super efficient hours in the day.

  3. Do what you love.

Yes, it’s true. Not everyone works a job they love or is fortunate to come across a job description that suits them perfectly. But what are you doing after 5pm when your full time gig is over (or whenever it ends)? Are you rushing to your computer to start working on an idea, a hobby, or passion you have? It should be focused on building your dream life. So even if that’s a hobby you love is after work hours, you’ll have more energy and be inspired. That inspiration compounds and should motivate you into the following day. Do that for 365 days in a row and you’ll be a different person.

I’m a huge advocate that everyone should do something they love once a week, month, year etc. And if you can figure out how to do that every day, you’re on your way to not only more energy, but more happiness.

All of these ideas are situational of course. Each persons life is in a different state. But these three items will help you keep your energy up. If you get lazy at 5pm, it might be time to ask yourself if you’re really living a fulfilled day?

Feet Finder 🦶🏼: MLLN

This week I’m spotlighting the homies over at MLLN - Joey Khamis and Finn Rush Taylor. Two young legends in the digital and physical product creation space which leverage Zellerfeld technology to 3d print footwear for people. Each person who purchases the MLLN PASS at .3eth (300+ dollars depending on the day) will be able to individually scan their foot and get a custom 1 of 1 printed product for themselves, along with other access perks to their community.

I purchased simply to try and own a piece of history like this. There are very few successful 3D printed products these days in footwear, so lets put it to the test.

Much love to Joey and Finn. You can grab yours here: https://www.mlln.io/

What are your goals this weekend? Will you start implementing new ways of generating energy?

Keep smiling ladies and gentlemen. See you next Friday.
