How To Maximize The Last Two Months Of The Year : Friday’s with Filar #002
Welcome back beautiful humans. And thanks to everyone who read last weeks article - if you went above and beyond and subscribed as well, you’re an even bigger legend.
Feet Finder 🦶🏼:
For those new here, Feet Finder is just a quick segment on shoes cause its what we all know and love. This week I’m going to kickstart (yes, the pun here is great) the newsletter by showing love to Lilith and good friend Sarah Sukumaran on the new color way launch of the Laude sneaker. Lilith is a Womens focused sneaker brand out of Queens NY. Im a big fan of the muted purples and the upgraded buckle… that piece of equipment looks incredible.
Make sure to check the new colorway out here.
Secondarily, biggg fan of this collaboration between Reebok and South2 West8. The colors are fire. AND I’m wildly biased cause its one of my favorite projects I got to work on during my time at Vibram. They’ll be available via the South2West8 website tomorrow (November 5th) for only $170USD. I think thats such a steal.
PS - I own two pairs of the Reebok Zig Kinetica II model and can confirm its a great shoe.
Stand Out (?) Collaboration 🕵🏼♂️ :
Two pieces of news hit my radar this week around Ralph Lauren. The first is their collaboration with Fortnite. I honestly think everyone ignored this and it didnt move the needle for them. But here are my thoughts:
At this point everyone has collaborated with Fortnite so it’s definitely lost its luster. From Adidas to Gucci, it seems a bit overdone now.
Is Ralph trying to be cool again? Personally, I love Ralph Lauren. They were the articles of clothing I could never afford growing up. If we went to a family style party and one of my parents friends was wearing the Polo logo, I always thought they had money. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t see anyone wearing it anymore.
Are they serious about being part of the gaming / web3 communities or is it just for show? I’m going to lean towards the latter at this point but time will tell (and hopefully I’m wrong!)
Okay - I left point 3 pretty vague because the second piece of news that hit this week around Ralph is that their former chief digital officer has left and started their own company. Based on this Vogue Business article Alice Delahunt is launching her own digital fashion platform called SYKY. What’s interesting is that she may have been the person behind the Fortnite collaboration as she left earlier this year after a 4 year stint at Ralph.
So it just makes me think that they were serious about the web3 space as Alice’s resume is very strong. But now the next 12 months are up in the air with a void in that position.
The Main Idea 🙇🏼♂️:
While we sit here reading this, there is less than 2 months left in the year. Theres so much that happens in the final 8 weeks of the year a lot of people lose track of their mission. We get lost in prioritizing the holidays, our families, travel, weather changes (if you’re on the east coast). We lose focus on what our major objectives are.
It’s not to say that people shouldn’t take breaks during the holidays. I’m just pointing out the idea that maybe while everyone else is distracted with all the above, its a time to stand out, shine, and highlight yourself and all you’ve been working on. Power through the last 60 days and finish strong. Don’t re-start in the new year. That’s just another excuse to not execute.
A few easy ways on being more efficient and maximize a little bit of time:
Screen shot things you’re interested in and go back to them when you have time. So often we go down a rabbit hole on social (whether that’s linkedin, facebook, instagram, twitter, etc) and then by the time we come up for air, 20 minutes has gone by. So I started screenshooting interesting things and then going back to them later, when I set aside time to actually digest and learn new subjects. A lot of the content here is built up in my photo album over each week. (Ps this works exceptionally well on the iPone. I dont do it if i’m on laptop)
Do not disturb. Okay - this might seem simple and a very “duh” moment, but I know none of you use it. I use DND on my iPhone 70%-85% of the day. Do I still check my phone? Of course! But it’s not buzzing every 5 seconds with another notification.
I once read that for every distraction or notification you give your attention to, it takes 3-5 minutes to get back and focused on your task at hand 👀.
Now that the idea of losing that much time is engrained in me, I do my best to not let each ping or notification distract me.
Stick to facts over opinions. This might save the most amount of time. Everyday we receive an email or a message that we need to respond to. Hell, maybe even sometimes it’s not even directed at you but you have this urge to respond. Take a step back, deep breath, and think about if you are reacting based on opinion or fact?
If you’re factually informed to prompt a response, then you should do that. It could provide others insight or provide a better solution.
If its your opinion that’s having a dance party on your keyboard, then most likely you just should just delete everything written.
This third point is definitely a case by case scenario, but I do believe we all (myself included) want to be heard all the time. Unfortunately, the world doesnt revolve around us and we would be way more efficient and be able to cross off more items on the list if we focused on the facts in front of us!
