Feeding Off Other Peoples Energy: Friday’s with Filar #007

What a week, huh? Anyone else find themselves on Tuesday night burning the candle at both ends thinking its Friday but there were still 3 days to go? Thats actually when I start writing these blogs, on Tuesdays, and they get refined each day with more thoughts and grammar corrections as the days go by.

I’m really pumped with this week and how it went. Full transparency, I had a terrible last weekend. It was pretty low for me emotionally and some things just didn’t click together the way I imagined. In the moment we want to be frustrated and it’s definitely easier to stay frustrated, but working on those challenges daily and overcoming them is way more satisfying than staying frustrated.

But here we are at the end of the week and I’m grateful for how the week came together.

(I even launched episode 0075 of my podcast this week - sorry shameless plug)

So the question at hand becomes how are humans suppose to constantly adapt and snap out of moods or the curveballs life throws at us?

We’ll get into that… but first.

A DOSE OF DESIGN ✍🏼 :

I need to share with you all the coolest tech breakthrough in a longtime (outside of NFTs and web3 which you are all sick of me writing about)… ChatGPT. While this isn’t a product design segment, the design of the ai (artificial intelligence) is absolutely bananaland.

Go to https://openai.com/blog/chatgpt/ create a username and password, and ask the AI anything slightly structured, versus blue sky.

For example, I asked “what are the best things that happened in 2022” and it couldn’t give me a rational response. BUT if you ask “What are some tips to making a successful blog post”… this is what you get:

WILD.

And this was a TIK TOK I found that did a really nice job explaining the levels you can go.

With something this ground breaking, people are going to figure out ways to abuse it for advancement in wrong ways. The first thing that comes to mind is high school kids and cheating on essays or tests. Cause if I was in high school, that’s what I would try and do.

When I tried this tech earlier in the week, it gave me COPIOUS amounts of energy. I was in awe at the break down responses it gave. So direct and helpful. I’m honestly super excited to integrate this into my life.

So this bring us to….

THE MAIN IDEA 🙇🏼‍♂️:

E-n-e-r-g-y

I’ve blogged about the concept of surrounding yourself with like minded individuals or people who are where you want to be in life. Its one of the simplest life hacks people can implement without much sacrifice.

And coming off a low over the weekend, I’m extremely thankful for the very few people I surround myself with that give off the craziest boosts of energy for me. The best way for me to explain this, is to show you. Here are some screen shot examples of what I mean:

I understand responding to people, supporting others, and being selfless 99% of the time is exhausting. But it also comes with the other side of the coin - positive balance, affirmation, and inspiration you’re giving to others. And that outweighs the exhaustion.

So HOW did I feed off these positive things? I cranked out 3 major design projects, reviewed 25 grant applications for the Arts Council I’m on, I finished sewing a Kimino, I created a ton of content, and I booked myself a trip to Peru.

Now - what do you do when you don’t get things like the above to snap you out of a negative mood? You are in control of who you surround yourself with. You are in control of what you consume visually. In control of what you listen to. And even what you think about daily. All of these are serious determining factors on how your day or week can go.

So please, if you’re not inspired or get a good feeling after talking to someone or reading something they wrote, then lessen the dose of that said person. Or reach out and I’m happy to chat.

Anyway, I just want to write a big thank you to all those people in my life who bring me up and not only feed off my energy, but reciprocate it back. You know who you are.

See you next Friday.

Good things.
